Slowly it gets colder and the first round “Sewing Around The World” is coming to an end. To our penultimate participant today we travel from Balaka, Malawi, where in October Tamara presented her brombeeerote jacket Tina, to Japan. There lives, works and sews in Tokyo Novita, which we also won for Sewing Around The World.
Novita chose Yogaset OHM for her contribution and since you liked the jerseys of our yogaset so much, a few weeks ago not only the cut pattern set but three different jerseys of living clothes from Berlin on the way to Japan.
In the yogaset are included a tank top, a legging and a long sleeve shirt and Novita has sewn all three pieces. Since the native Indonesian is very petite and is 1.50 cm relatively small, she had to adjust the (lengths) of the respective parts. What she has changed everything, Novita describes in detail in her blog.
I would like to thank you very much for the Novita blog, because she not only makes a lot for herself, but also for her husband and her son and all creations are lovingly presented in her blog. And not that: even her dog, an already slightly aged Chinese Crested bitch, is equipped by Novita with little coats for the colder days!
We have also asked Novita again a few questions about your sewing passion and say THANK YOU to Japan again for the great yogaset and to Berlin for clothing for the generous fabric package!
In the last post to “Sewing Around The World” In 2016, we return to Europe in December and then say goodbye to the old year with a new cut and a blogger from Austria … So, stay tuned
Present yourself a little bit
My name is Novita, I’m 45 years old Indonesian living in Tokyo, Japan, with my little family. I started my blog verypurpleperson shortly after I moved to Tokyo in 2008 as my sewing journal.
When did you start to sew and why? How did you learn to sew?
I actually graduated from ESMOD fashion school in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1998. But after that I didn’t have many opportunities to sew since I was working in a magazine. I have forgotten a lot about sewing and pattern drafting. When I got married, I moved to Tokyo to follow my husband. Suddenly I had some free time and decided to reignite my old hobby. One of the thing that I bought the first several months in Japan was a sewing machine.
What are your favourite clothes? Do you have a fable for something?
My favourite always change along the time. I wish I have a certain fashion style, but I’m still looking for it….
What is the sewing project you like the most?
At this moment, I really like making lingerie.
Do you only sew for you or also for other people (husband, children, …)?
I also sew for my husband, son, and my dog. She’s a ten years old Chinese Crested who gets cold rather easily.
From where do you get your ideas? Do you buy patterns or do you invent your own ones?
I would like to say that my idea comes from everywhere around me, but it mostly comes from the internet. Sometimes I go the fabric stores and find the idea from the fabric itself. I mostly buy patterns and alter them to fit my petite body.
